The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued a stark warning about the plight of Gaza’s children, who make up half of the enclave’s 2.4 million residents.

In a statement posted Tuesday, the agency declared that their lives are defined by “war and devastation”, with many out of school, repeatedly displaced, and barely eating.

“There are one million children in Gaza,” UNRWA emphasized, adding that the ongoing Israeli assault has obliterated educational infrastructure, leaving most schools destroyed and the few remaining converted into overcrowded shelters for displaced families.

The agency stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire, stating that peace is essential not only for the survival of Gaza’s children but also for the future stability of the region.

According to the World Health Organization, an average of 112 children are hospitalized daily in Gaza for malnutrition-related complications, a direct result of the Israeli blockade and the collapse of food systems.

UNRWA also noted that children are enduring repeated trauma, with many forced to flee multiple times amid bombardments.

Human rights groups report that children and women remain the most affected by the war, which has decimated Gaza’s infrastructure and daily life.
